Jovita is retired from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 9, in San Francisco. In a 35-year career at EPA, her range of duties included managing, developing and implementing a range of Clean Water Act programs: from nonpoint source pollution, to watershed protection and restoration, to regulatory programs. She has been recognized for her work in these areas by various constituencies. She is especially proud of her accomplishments with the agricultural community focusing on partnerships and collaboration to advance water quality, watershed protection, food safety, and the regulation of concentrated animal feeding operations. She also briefly served as the deputy director of the Office of Public Affairs. She is an alumna of UC Berkeley and the California Agricultural Leadership Program, Class 28. She currently is a member of the California Roundtable for Water and Food Supply, the California Envirothon, San Francisco Baykeeper, and the California Water Policy Conference planning committee.
