Context Matters: Visioning a Food Hub in Yolo and Solano Counties
June 2011 The students from a UC Davis graduate seminar in Food System Analysis recently completed an assessment of the local food system for the Yolo Ag and Food Alliance. Entitled Context Matters: Visioning a Food Hub in Yolo and Solano Counties, the assessment includes recommendations to the Aggregation Working Group and will jump-start YAFA’s work to support the development of regional aggregation, storage, retail, and distribution infrastructure as needed. The working group will be doing the work of determining the actual needs and opportunities for connection while addressing complex questions: Can we truly address hunger and access needs while addressing local farm viability, and does it make sense to attempt this through the design of regional food infrastructure? At least one more forum toward this end will be held, and they will engage in strategic business planning.
