In 2011, after a year of developing stakeholder understanding, member recruitment, and other foundation-building work, the Santa Clara County Alliance has also formed three committees: Ag Viability, Access (Food Security), and Assessment. A broad base of members have been recruited including the Executive Director of the Farm Bureau, urban agriculture proponents, public health advocates, the County Ag Commissioner, food security activists, professors from Stanford and Santa Clara Universities, and more.
Santa Clara Food System Alliance Accomplishments in 2011
- SCCFSA was formed by converting the existing Silicon Valley Food System Collaborative. It is now a strong Alliance of 25 members with representation from rural and urban farmers, local food security organizations, the Health Department, Executive Director of the Farm Bureau, Community Alliance with Family Farmers, the County Ag Commissioner and UCCE.
- The Alliance drafted a letter to the Open Space Authority for them to consider agriculture as a strong community value during their Visioning and Strategic Planning process.
- The Alliance completed the year by forming two committees: Ag Viability and Access, as well as deciding to conduct and compile an assessment of the local food system.
